I was a little skeptical but I was so tired of fooling with rearview mirrors. Electrical taping them on my helmet was just one way I tried to do this over many many years. I’ve been an avid cyclist since my college days, generally riding 5k to 6k miles per year. A few years ago I suddenly lost vision in my right eye (literally overnight) and was diagnosed with with a condition known as NAION (very rare and had none of the markers that was generally associated with this condition e.g., high blood pressure, overweight, other underlying conditions , etc.). Needless to say, it was devastating with the realization that I could probably never ride safely again (with the loss of that vision it made looking back too dangerous particularly when moving at higher speeds, as well as having awareness of where other cyclists were in a peloton). I couldn’t afford the risk of a bicycle mirror that could detach in an accident as it poised a potential risk to my other eye. Then over 3 plus years ago, I discovered Tri-Eye and I’m back in the saddle. It affords me the cycling visibility that I had prior to the “event” (actually better) and I am so greatful. Many of my cyclists friends have now acquired the glasses as part of their inventory. Tri-Eye team - I can’t thank you enough - your glasses are a life changer!

I haven’t seen many comparisons between the TriEye-style mirror and traditional bicycle mirrors mounted on standard glasses. I’ve used a mirror attached to my Oakley glasses for quite some time, and it does have the advantage of a larger mirror. However, there are several drawbacks: the glasses can’t fully close, the mirror tends to shake, and it looks somewhat awkward. That said, it has functioned well overall.

The TriEye system, by contrast, has a much cleaner and more streamlined design. I initially thought I would need to turn my head about 20 degrees to see behind me, but in reality it’s closer to 3–5 degrees, which is negligible. My only initial concern was that the mirror felt a bit small. After some research, I discovered they offer a larger mirror option that many users recommend, which I’ve already ordered.

One major advantage over the Oakley-mounted bike mirror is stability. The TriEye mirror does not shake, resulting in a much clearer and more reliable view. I’ve only been using it for two days, but so far I’m very impressed and consider it a worthwhile investment.
